Get to Know Carla:
Carla Raynes is the dynamic CEO and Founder of charity, Bridge It, and social enterprise,
Challenge The Label.
With 20 years’ experience of working in the trenches of the homelessness sector, she saw firsthand a system that was broken. Carla believes that a combination of innovation and collaboration is needed to tackle Australia's homelessness crisis.
Recognised for her leadership, Carla is part of MECCA's Mpowered Collective, a Westpac Social Change Fellow, a Social Impact Hub Fellow, and an AMP Tomorrow Maker.
Carla's deep focus extends to women, who have been labelled and limited due to
experiences in homelessness, sex work, or substance use. After becoming both a CEO and a mother at the same time, she saw that the labelling of women is a deeper societal issue.
Carla aspires to smash gender stereotypes, challenge norms, and push for gender equality.
Her initiatives offer tangible solutions, fostering hope and support for all women. Carla's journey embodies resilience, compassion, and unwavering determination.
Experience and Experience:
Carla has worked in the homelessness sector in the UK and Australia, with a focus on supportive housing. She left the mainstream homelessness sector in 2018, and has since set up a charity and two social enterprises, as well as birthing and raising two children during this time. Carla has galvanised the corporate sector since launching her charity three years ago, generating nearly $5M in donations of funding, time, and product. Carla believes in the power of radical collaboration, and sees businesses as having a key role to play in making Australia a country where everyone can thrive.
